THE LARGEST ASIA PACIFIC MEDICAL DEVICES TRADE EVENT OPENS AT ZHENGZHOU
The global medical device industry will congregate at Zhengzhou for the largest ever China International Medical Fair (CMEF) and 3rd International Component Manufacturing & Design Show (ICMD). Organized by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions (RSE), the 56th edition of CMEF and 3rd presentation of ICMD will be held at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center from 31 Oct to 3 Nov 2006.
CMEF’s Continued Growth with More International Customers Attending Show
The biannual CMEF event features more than 2,000 exhibiting companies from 20 countries and regions covering over 80,000 m2 of exhibition space for each event. CMEF comprehensively covers the medical device/equipment sector with more than 40 key product categories and displaying over 10,000 products including imaging, surgical and emergency, diagnostics, critical patient care, electronics, optical, laboratory and clinical devices, and other healthcare products and services for hospital and medical institutes. Strong collective participation enabled the formation of 45 Chinese provincial groups and country pavilions from the US, Germany, South Korea, Japan among others. Leading local participating manufacturers include Wandong, Shinva, Neusoft, Mindray, Lanyun, Aloka, Kohden, and Shimadzu. Overseas participating companies include established brands such as GE Medical, Siemens, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Medtronics, Toshiba, Hitachi, Kodak, Fuji, Drager and Aditis.
The China medical device is worth US$7 billion in 2005 and expected to grow at 15 % over the next 3 years. Consequently, CMEF has seen a significant increase in the presence of overseas exhibitors compared to the same show last year with 100 exhibiting vis-à-vis 66 previously. The total number of countries and regions at the event increased from 16 to 20, with total international exhibition space doubling to exceed 3,200 m2. The outcome is in part due to the aggressive and targeted marketing campaign to priority markets as requested by the exhibitors. It is also in part due to the strengthening global brand awareness of CMEF and ICMD as the must-attend events in Asia Pacific.
A similar trend emerges for visitors. For CMEF Autumn 2005, there were 654 visitors from 64 countries. Based on the 867 pre-registered visitors from 68 countries, a significant increase in the number of overseas visitors is expected. (Details will be available on www.CMEF.com.cn post show.)
CMEF’s Continued Evolution to Better Serve Customers’ Needs:
(A) Creation of Time-Effective, Content Rich Learning Platforms
Motivated by the commitment towards the long-term development of the medical devices/equipment industry, RSE has devoted energy and resources towards delivering even more relevant and topical conference programmes at CMEF. Such knowledge-acquisition opportunities provide an effective tripartite platform for the exchange of knowledge among government, industry and academia. The interplay creates opportunities for industry to leverage latest technologies being discovered and developed at research based institutions, for academia to understand future industrial needs, and for government to support the future growth of technology and innovation.
To cater to the unique needs of the major customer groups, specially-tailored conferences have been designed for CMEF Autumn 2006 as set out below:
a. Zhengzhou Forum of Chinese Medical Imaging Technology Congress 2006
Jointly organised by the China Medical Imaging Technology Committee and RSE, the Congress gathers leading industry experts and 350 hospital directors from the X-ray departments to contemplate and discuss topical issues and emerging trends in the continued development of computerised tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) technologies.
b. 2006 Seminar on National Policy of Medical Device Industry
Co-organised by CAMDI and RSE, the seminar focuses on two topics: first, “How to Select and Purchase the Right Equipment and the Bidding Process”, and second, “The New Policy on Medical Device Pricing Reforms”. Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Public Health will meet with industry to discuss and share information relating to the various new policies and directives.
c. China Medical Device Investment Forum
The inaugural event jointly organised by CAMDI and RSE examines and discusses industry concerns with respect to ensuring effective investment and maximising return on investment. This is an issue of significant interest with more Chinese companies increasing investment to further enable its export capabilities by ensuring its products fulfill international standards and requirements.
d. China-Korea Forum
Co-organised by CAMDI and Korea Medical Devices Industrial Coop Association, the forum focuses on the regulations relating to import of Korea products into the Chinese market and regulations on registration, supervision and introduction of new products.
e. Medical Innovation Design Forum
Co-organised by Design News China and RSE, the Forum covers a broad range of topics such as providing an overview of the current market situation in China, understanding the latest needs of the China medical device manufacturers, introducing new design innovation systems, analysing the importance of research and development, and using new materials for various medical applications.
(B) Focus on Customer First
With a Customer First approach, CMEF and ICMD continue to innovate so as to improve the product and service offering for its customers before, during and after the event. Among the marketing initiatives initiated include distributing over 150,000 flyers to the global industry, advertising in more than 30 local and overseas publications, personalized badges for exhibitors and visitors, VIP lounges, complimentary shuttle buses from hall to designated pick-up and drop off points (vice versa), tip book for exhibitors, networking receptions for exhibitors to meet key buyers, and bilingual signs. The recently revamped website (www.CMEF.com.cn) continues to provide a 24 by 7, effective platform for exhibitors and visitors. To date, the website has received accolades from overseas customers for its informative and updated developments on the medical devices/equipment industry in China. The website yields a unique visit every 3 seconds.
Another new segment introduced to better serve industry is the MediSoft zone. The new feature showcases various service providers in the medical device/equipment sector including consultancy, packaging, software development, research and development, and logistic services for hospital and medical institutions.
Conclusion
CMEF and ICMD event continues to provide total effective business solutions for the global medical devices industry. Furthermore, the multiple value-enhancing activities at CMEF and ICMD create opportunities for industry players to trade, source, congregate, network, learn and exchange views on latest industry and market developments and technologies.
