CMEF & ICMD Autumn 2006 to Host US Healthcare Trade Mission

The 56th CMEF (China International Medical Equipment Fair) and the 3rd ICMD (China International Component Manufacturing and Design Show) – Autumn editions - are expected to welcome 50,000-plus visitors and close to 2,000 exhibitors at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center located in Henan Province, China, during October 31 to November 3, 2006.  Organized by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, the CMEF and ICMD are Asia Pacific’s biggest and most established professional trade fairs for the medical device industry. In recognition of the strong reputation of the co-located events, the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC) has certified the U.S. Pavilion.  Additionally, the Office of Global Trade Programs (GTP) will organize a Healthcare Technologies Trade Mission that will include stops in Zhengzhou, Beijing and Hong Kong.  The Mission will target a wide range of healthcare sectors, including but not limited to medical equipment and devices; diagnostics, and the IT-healthcare sub-sector.

The purpose for staging the mission at the Exhibition venue is twofold.  First,  mission participants gain direct exposure to top-flight co-located exhibitions wherein they can expect to meet potential Chinese agents, distributors, licensees, or joint venture partners on the exhibit floor and in the one-on-one matchmaking meetings being scheduled on October 31 and November 1.  There is also a networking event on the first night of the show that expands their opportunities to meet Chinese companies and healthcare professionals seeking the latest technologies.

Mr. Richard Craig, Commercial Officer at the US Embassy in Beijing said, “Import accounts for approximately 70% of China’s US$6 billion medical device market with the US supplying approximately 35 % of those imports. We are very pleased that this exhibition will feature more than thirty American manufacturers or representatives of U.S.-made medical equipment. We believe that China’s highly competitive market offers potential to American suppliers and that our products compare favorably with those marketed by Japan and the European Union economies, led by Germany. Additionally, China’s medical device and equipment industry can benefit from expanding its production capabilities through the purchase of higher technology products produced by American and components suppliers. Currently ranked 11th in the world, China’s medical device sector is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries.”

“In short, we are providing extensive support to U.S. suppliers through the mission and in the certified Pavilion at the shows in Zhengzhou because these established Exhibitions offer excellent business opportunities for leading global equipment and component manufacturers. We chose to stage the mission at the co-located events because of their reputation and because the timing was ideal since our Healthcare Technologies Trade Mission had long been planned for the Fall of 2006. All things considered, it’s the perfect platform to showcase one’s products and conduct business in China. Moreover, China’s Ministry of Commerce and the key industry association, the China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI), support the events. The added bonus of meeting potential buyers and business partners from elsewhere in Asia who will be targeted by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions’ media and direct mail campaign cannot be overlooked. We look forward to participating.”
